Elephant Seals
Every year, thousands of Elephant Seals return to their rockery in San Simeon. During peak months; January, April, and October up to 17,000 Elephant Seals can be seen along the shores! During winter months you can witness males fighting and claiming for their dominance and watch hundreds of pups be born. The Rockery located at Piedras Blancas is easily accessible, free, and open to the public year round.
Hiking
The hiking trails in San Simeon will entice all nature lovers. From the rolling hills, rocky cliffs, and ocean views, there is something for every age and experience level to enjoy.

Piedras Blancas Light Station
The Piedras Blancas Light Station is a historic landmark on California’s Central Coast providing a glimpse into our nation’s past when lighthouses served a vital role. Located on California’s scenic Highway 1 six miles north of Hearst Castle, the Lighthouse was first illuminated in 1875. Today the Light Station is managed as a historic park and wildlife sanctuary.
